Susannah works with children, adolescents, young adults, and families, offering individual therapy, family therapy, and parent coaching. She strives to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where clients can explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences while developing a deeper understanding of how cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns influence their lives and relationships.
Susannah approaches therapy as a collaborative process, helping clients develop greater self-awareness, strengthen coping skills, and explore new ways of navigating challenges. Central to her approach is a balance between validating clients' experiences and encouraging growth and change. She believes that individuals are not defined by the challenges they have faced and that each person has the capacity to reclaim a sense of agency in shaping their own story.
Susannah has a particular passion for working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma. Through Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), she helps clients explore how traumatic experiences have shaped their beliefs about themselves and the world around them. She finds particular meaning in helping clients develop more compassionate perspectives of themselves and build the confidence to navigate situations that once felt overwhelming or unsafe.
In addition to TF-CBT, Susannah incorporates Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and family-based interventions into her practice. She helps clients develop practical skills to regulate emotions and navigate interpersonal challenges, while offering family therapy to strengthen relationships and address ineffective patterns of interaction. Through parent coaching, she also equips caregivers with strategies and practical skills to respond to their child's emotional difficulties.
Susannah earned her Master of Social Work from Boston College and is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW) in Massachusetts. She is certified in TF-CBT and has specialized clinical experience in DBT.
Prior to joining Birch Hill, Susannah worked at McLean Hospital's Child and Adolescent Outpatient Program, providing individual and family therapy to children, adolescents, and young adults. She also served as a DBT clinician in McLean's 3East Outpatient Program, providing individual and family therapy as well as multifamily DBT skills groups. Susannah also established her own private practice, offering individual therapy, family therapy, and parent coaching to children, adolescents, and their families.
